Belgian artists: Belgian artist Franz San Gennaro Pizza Masareel

Thanks to my mother a few years ago, in Italy, I met this Belgian artist. His work, highly topical, especially in these times (!), And its stroke so modern I was motivated to do some research. I was hoping to find something more, and why not, an exhibition scheduled for 2008 in Brussels or elsewhere. For now nothing, but who knows someone you do not think ...

Franz Masereel (Blankenberge (Belgium), July 31, 1889 - Avignon January 3, 1972) is considered one of the largest wood and wood engravers of the twentieth century. Mon Livre d'Heures, a full graphic novel (without words) is considered his masterpiece. His work has influenced the artistic production of Clifford Haperi and Eric Drooker.
Franz Masereel belonged to a wealthy family that allowed him to attend the art academy in Ghent.
During his artistic training came to anarchism and pacifism, and the outbreak of World War fled to Geneva. Here he met writers and artists such as Romans left Rolland Stefan Zweig, who became friends for life.
