Hotel Hannon

One of the buildings luckily survived the barbaric "brussellizzazione" Hannon is the magnificent Hotel, now home to Contretype a center of contemporary art photography known beyond the boundaries of the plat pays.

Located on the corner of Avenue de la Jonction et Av Brugmann, this beautiful example of art nouveau, designed by Brunfaut can not go unnoticed even the most casual passers-by. With only two euro fifty, you can cross the threshold of a wooden door to visit the inside of the building that any exposure to photography course. The entrance is magnificent - M. Hannon has certainly spared no expense - with its imposing fresco of bucolic Emile Baudouin covering the entire wall of the staircase and the ceiling "dome" which is also rigorously decorated.
The windows of the conservatory, where there is now a small café, are breathtaking as those in the smoking room on the first floor. Is the one that the others were created by Evaldre, a disciple of Tiffany. Deserves a shot from above the mosaic that decorates the floor of the entrance.

To conclude the visit and return to the early twentieth century to the present day you can hold in a room adjacent to the café at ease to browse the catalogs of the various exhibitions held in time in this superb example of Art Nouveau and possibly buy them. It's no accident that this building became the headquarters of Contretype: M. Hannon, besides being an engineer with Solvay, was a lover of photography. At his death, in this house, left a vast photographic archive, then returned to the town of Saint-Gilles, owner of the hotel.
